Information for Pension Plan Members

Benefit and Contribution Formulas
The PBSA does not set specific benefit or contribution levels for pension plans.

The PBSA does require that formulas for determining benefits, member and employer contributions, and the allocation of those contributions:

  • be uniform for each year of future employment,

  • be uniform for each class of employees covered by the plan,

  • not be based on the member's age on joining the plan (in a defined benefit plan)

  • be uniform in a defined contribution plan, and

  • be uniform for males and females.

The PBSA requires pension plans to inform members of their benefits and entitlements on:

  • termination of membership,

  • the death of a member or former member,

  • retirement, and

  • termination of the plan.
