| What is a submortgage broker?
Submortgage brokers are the employees of the mortgage broker. The Mortgage Brokers Act requires a submortgage broker to be registered with the mortgage broker. Once registered, the submortgage broker is permitted to conduct mortgage broker activity on behalf of the mortgage broker. Individuals who conduct mortgage broker activity without proper registration commit an offence under the Act.
For mortgage broker registration or registration information as a sole-proprietor see Mortgage Broker Registration Information (Sole Proprietors and Companies).
Are there any educational requirements?
New applicants (those not previously registered) must meet educational requirements before applying for registration. The Real Estate Division at the University of British Columbia administers the courses. For more information on the courses, please visit our Educational Requirements information site. Questions on the content of the courses should be directed to the University of British Columbia.
The Educational Requirements information site also includes information on education exemptions available for previous related experience (real estate licensees) or related education. The information also contains requalification guidelines for previously registered or licensed individuals under the Mortgage Brokers Act or Real Estate Act.
All applications must be accompanied by the appropriate fee. Note that once submitted, the fee is not refundable.
